Movie Rave: Serenity
I will go on the record right now as saying that I have never been a Joss Whedon fan. I liked the original Buffy movie, but not the series (except for the dreamy Marc Blucas as Buffy’s boyfriend), or its spinoff, Angel. I did greatly enjoy the movie Serenity, however, despite having never seen the original (incomplete) Firefly TV series. I guess that’s the first of the movie’s strengths: it’s accessible even to newbies like me. Other strengths:
- The general likeability of the cast. They work well together and act as if they really do have a history (which they do, of course).
- The exciting glimpses we get of a rich mythology that lurks behind the immediate story.
