Mountain of Controversy
Brokeback Mountain is a lot of things to a lot of people. Today we’ll learn a little about the controversy that has surrounded this movie over the past week or so.
First, I’d like to refer my readers to Eric D. Snider’s most recent blog entry, in which Eric discusses the reasons behind the cancellation of all showings of Brokeback Mountain at the Jordan Commons movieplex. Rest assured that Eric will find these reasons wanting. Gayle Ruzicka also gets her comeuppance–or at least part of it (that woman has a lot of uppance comin’, as any non-crazy person in Utah knows).
Next, I’m sending you to an article by Jim Emerson on RogerEbert.com in which Emerson takes on the various assumptions people have about Brokeback Mountain, both before and after seeing it, and explains why those assumptions are probably all wrong.
Last, go see the movie and decide for yourself. Above all, don’t make up your mind about what kind of movie it is or what its message is until you’ve seen it yourself.

Thanks for the links to those articles. I might not have read them otherwise!
And I would say that Jake Gyllenhaal’s character Jack was at least a 4 on the Kinsey scale. That surprised me a bit when I saw the film–I had expected both of them to be more like Ennis.
