X-Men: The Last Stand
Blah. The story was utterly illogical from beginning to end, so it obviously isn’t getting points from me for narrative strength. The acting . . . was okay. Some of it was good. A lot of it wasn’t.
The only thing that keeps me from giving this movie a complete thumbs down is the eye-candy: Hugh Jackman as Wolverine (ever-bushier sideburns/chops! wifebeater scene! shirtless scene!); Daniel Cudmore as Colossus (shirtless scene!); Ben Foster as Angel (shirtless scene!); Shawn Ashmore as Iceman (. . . dyes his hair darker? um . . .); etc. For those of you who prefer females, there’s Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Famke Janssen as the unstable Jean Grey/Phoenix, Anna Paquin as Rogue, and Emma Page as Shadowcat. There’s also quite a bit of fun visual effects, although ultimately I got kind of tired of being introduced one by one to a thousand mutants with distinct powers.
This is fairly mindless entertainment, but it can be fun to watch.
