BYU Professor Fired for Stance on Gay Marriage

Well, the inevitable happened: BYU adjunct professor Jeffrey Nielsen (whose op/ed piece criticizing the LDS Church’s position on gay marriage ran on June 4 in the Salt Lake Tribune) “will not be rehired” once the current academic term is up. [Read the SLTrib article here.] In addition to reading the original opinion piece, you can also listen to an interview that aired on June 8 on KRCL’s call-in radio show, RadioActive.

The question is, how long will it take before his bishop or stake president decides to disfellowhip and/or excommunicate him?

You know as awful as it may seem. BYU acted within the law and had every right to fire him. The institution NEVER ever claimed to be a place of equality and shared belives.

The key to all of this is what you said. “When will he be excomminucated?”

Just a quick thought and opinion.
