Half-Way-Point Update on god is not Great

I thought I should mention one more thing about Christopher Hitchens’s new book, god is not Great: not only is Hitchens (unsurprisingly) not very complimentary towards religion as a whole in his book, but he also spends nearly a whole chapter just on the origins of Mormonism. So, if you are a Mormon who is sensitive about hearing Joseph Smith described as “a mere cynic,” a “huckster” who “overreached himself and came to a violent end,” or about hearing the volumes of the LDS scriptural canon dismissed one by one as “at best a scrawny compromise and at worst a pitiful fake,” then perhaps you shouldn’t read this book. Or maybe you should! It’s unlikely to convince you of anything—Hitchens does not spend much time backing up his arguments, let alone citing sources—but it might teach you something about what you are able to stand. And endurance is a virtue.
