The Thinkies!

Milkflower has selected Alone and Unobserved for the Thinking Blog Award, alleging that my blog makes her “think.” Surely I don’t need to respond to such baseless slander. Er, libel. In the spirit of turn-and-turn-about, it is now up to me to slander five other blogs in the same manner. The lucky recipients are (in no particular order):

  • The Voice of Reason, by Miss Nemesis
A few notes about Miss Nemesis: She’s a librarian. She got her degree in England. She is in love with Ioan Gruffudd. She is funny. She updates regularly, and often has pictures! And, um, she makes me think about Jane Austen a lot.
  • Todd’s Hammer
If you haven’t read Todd’s excellent and impassioned dissection of Dallin Oaks’ Anti-Gay Manifesto, feel free to do so now. His blog makes me think that I’m glad not everyone is taken in by the ex-gay agenda.
  • The Late Review, by DavidH
If you are interested in languages, books, poems and translation, especially the Scandinavian and isolated non-Indo-European varieties, check out David’s blog. Don’t worry, he writes in English, except when he switches to Finnish or Swedish. He makes me think about learning about sixteen new languages.
  • The King of Queen Anne, by Sir Jupiter
Sir Jupiter’s life is like a sitcom, when it isn’t like a soap opera. Someday I’ll get rich by selling his life story to ABC. And then he’ll have another amusing story to tell—The Time My Life Was Optioned for TV Without My Consent. Also, he lives in Seattle, and therefore his blog makes me think about how much I wish I lived there instead of here.
  • Books Are King, by Edgy
When Edgy is not paying homage to the newest crop of recommended books, he is telling amusing anecdotes about his home life with Puppy, his job at an area gym or the neighbors down the block who go waaay overboard on holiday-themed decorations. Which makes me think that I wish I had an amusing home life.

And, for the five bloggers above, here are the rules:

  1. If, and only if, you get tagged, write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think
  2. Link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme
  3. Optional: Proudly display the ‘Thinking Blogger Award’ (available in gold or silver versions).

    >>SIR JUPITER: Thank you! Thank you. Words cannot begin to express the immense honor and gratitude I feel for receiving this awar-…

[BAND begins to play. SIR JUPITER is hurriedly escorted offstage to make way for a commercial break]

  • Nemesis Says:

[Has drugged entire band so they cannot interrupt her speech.]

Nothing in my life will ever top this. I thank you and will strive to be worthy of this great honor/honour.

  • Milkflower Says:

Thank you for carrying on this long standing tradition (the award was invented in February I think).
And thank you for one of the best acceptance speaches ever writte on my blog!
Promise to give that when you will finally receive the Nobel price!
(And don’t forget to mention how the Thinking Bogger Award really paved the way for you..!)

  • DavidH Says:

I’m touched and moved – thank you! Knowing that people read one’s blog (and that, apparently, it makes them ‘think’) is very comforting, and makes it all worthwhile. Thank you once again :-)

Now I just need to work out how to upload the logo with the proper link. As a complete and utter technophobe (for whom setting up the blog in the first place was an achievement of the highest order), I may need to turn to you for some assistance…

And, regarding a comment ages ago about text verification letters being somehow linked to your internet usage, what do you make of the set I got for this post? KYIWRAJP I dread to think…

  • Jér Says:

DavidH, I’d be happy to help you get your award uploaded and situated. Send me an email (you can find my addy on my profile page) and I’ll write out directions for what I did. Let me know if you have Blogger in Beta, because that makes a difference, and also if you use an image-hosting service like Flickr or Photobucket.
