Frosty, Dahling, Give Me Some of Your Sweet Lovin’
The next time you happen to be in Salt Lake, check out Gentry Blackburn’s new boutique, Frosty Darling, at 177 East Broadway (300 South). Gentry used to work at the library, and I’d told her several times that I would stop by her new store, but somehow I never had. (If you look at a map, or have any familiarity with downtown Salt Lake, you will realize that I work 1.2 blocks from her store, so basically I had no excuse.)
Well, I dropped by today, having run out of lunch before I ran out of lunchtime, and let me tell you: The hand-painted sofa pillows! The hand-made tchotchkes and knick-knacks! The walls covered with art from local artists! The PURSES omigod the purses are WONDERFUL and if I carried a purse I would now own three new ones they are THAT PERFECT. In short: Frosty Darling is divine, and I will be going back.
Also featured in the store are a few pieces of custom furniture by Travis Dinsmore (another former library coworker), who started up his own business, Pragmatic Design, right around the same time his girlfriend Gentry opened hers. His furniture has beautiful clean lines that make my hands itch to stroke the grain of the wood, with a solid, functional-yet-attractive style. As soon as I am not dirt poor, I will be commissioning a few necessary items from his shop.
