In Which Normal-Seeming People Turn Out to Be Creepy, Once Again
Patron: Hey! You have breakfast at [local café]!
Me: . . . er, yes, sometimes.
Patron: My husband and I saw you there and we thought you looked like an interesting person, and we wondered where you worked.
Me: [Astonished silence]
Patron: And now we know!
Me: [Totally creeped out]

I should perhaps clarify that I don’t think this woman and her husband were crazies or stalkers. They seemed very nice. But there are some things you just don’t say to someone when you first meet them—especially in a “strictly business” situation like that one we were in.
“We spied on you from across a crowded café, discussed you amongst ourselves, hazarded guesses about where you worked… and now we’ve found you! Haha!” There’s no way to say that without sounding stalkerish.

You know you live in Utah. This really does not sound strange at all. I have lived there before and people have come up to me and have said things to me as total strangers like: ” It is so wonderful to meet a Lamanite who has found the gospel” ” Are you glad that you live in civilization with running toilets?” ” Guam is in South America, right?”

ha!
a few weeks ago I was at a bookstore where an author was there doing a signing. I walk by her and suddenly there’s a squeal: “OMG you write windmillwatching!” and then she was hugging me.
it was… part cool… part creepy… ;-)

1. Clearly, they have nought but nefarious intentions.
2. Somehow I read “stalkerish” as “stalkerfish”. Not sure what that means, but it sounds like a cool band name. (And probably a death metal one, I’m guessing.)

Sounds like a three-way about to happen.

tasithoughts, I get that kind of religious intrusion at the library, too, although they don’t usually call me a Lamanite. :D
Kerry, was it an author you were familiar with?
Craig, clearly.
playa, somehow that idea doesn’t help. LOL

Hey at least you know you look like an interesting person from across a cafe. This may be a good thing someday. :)

They are SO going to ask you to 3-way with them one day soon!
