Recently Read and Rated- Let the Right One In: A Novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist - Rating: 4/5I hardly ever say this, but... the movie was better. Mostly because of all the things it left out, all the things it didn't try to explain. Still good. Just not *as* good.
- The Hidden Brain: How Our Unconscious Minds Elect Presidents, Control Markets, Wage Wars, and Save Our Lives by Shankar Vedantam - Rating: 4/5Really quite excellent. I had heard about a great deal of the research, the case studies and the examples before, but Vedantam ties it all together engagingly, clearly and incisively. I'm not qualified to judge the research this book is based on, or even the conclusions the author draws from that...
- The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan - Rating: 4/5The series has gotten better with each book, but this is finally the installment that I felt tipped it over into four-star territory. Barely. But four stars even so. Sure, I rolled my eyes when the sixteen-year-old characters talked about their Twoo, Twoo Wuv, and there was plenty of other...
- The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman - Rating: 5/5Possibly my favorite Neil Gaiman book to date. Gaiman has a marvelous way of hinting at so many things without vulgarly spelling them out. Half the fun was reading between the lines. A must-re-read.
- The Goon, Volume 9: Calamity Of Conscience by Eric Powell - Rating: 4/5

Tim Minchin is the shit. I did bristle a bit at his description of Storm, mainly because I’m into a lot of alternative medicine stuff and I hope people don’t think I’m like that. :)

(I shouldn’t say I’m into a LOT of alternative medicine stuff…just a few…and I’m not superstitious about it…and I think the bulk of it is crap…especially the spirit-based crap…okay, now I’m all self-conscious. I just don’t want Tim to think badly of me! :)

I hopelessly crush on Tim. Have you seen his “take your canvas bags?” song? /sigh!

Chandelle, whenever I fall in love with someone new that I’ve never actually met—a celebrity, or a character in a book, or a scientist, or whatever—they suddenly become yet another voice in my head criticizing how I do things. It is quite disconcerting and depressing. I want them to like me, and all they do all day long is put me down! Fuck!
I guess what I’m saying is, Tim Minchin is watching you RIGHT NOW.
G, I hadn’t seen it! But it’s awesome enough that I’m going to try and embed it here. Let’s see if it works!
