Overheard Right Outside the Library
Kid in stroller: “Mommeeee!”
Mother: “What is it now?!”
Kid: “…”
Mother: “I swear, if you don’t behave, I’m going to take you on the ELEVATOR!!!”
Aren’t parents awesome?
And, just for illustration, here are the dreaded great glass elevators of DEATH the mother was threatening her 2-year-old with:

I’m even a little afraid of those elevators.

My kids love those elevators. Every time we went to the library I’d have to drag them away so they didn’t just keep pushing the button to go up and down. I swear, when I told them we might go back to SLC to visit soon, both children (ages 2 and 4) asked, “Can we PLEEEEEEEEEEASE go to the library and ride on the elevator?”

Kerry, we have patrons who can’t use either the elevators or the stairs (also visible in the picture, for those who have never been to our library), which means we have to walk them to one of the regular, enclosed staff elevators in the back. I personally think there should have been at least one public elevator that wasn’t a terrifying-death-drop-in-a-glass-box, but hey, I’m not an internationally renowned architect. :P
Chandelle, the best is taking the elevator all the way to the top, letting go of the handrail, and riding it all the way down while watching the ground rush up to meet you. …uh, I mean, kids, the elevator is not a toy! :D

Seriously? I would’ve behaved immediately if my mom had threatened me with those.
Even as an adult, I’d prolly have to take the stairs. I had a little panic attack on the escalator at the Salt Palace when I was with Nick and Craig :P Much less glass elevators going multiple stories up.

That’s the CommentLuv plugin, and I love it, too. :D I saw it on Michelle’s blog, bleedingespresso.com, and I liked it so much I had to steal it. :)

Beautiful building! Similar to our new library in Minneapolis, but I like this one even more.
