Craig‘s birthday was yesterday, so Sunday we went out and go our eyebrows pierced.

Sunday night we had a Wonderfalls marathon. I love Wonderfalls. I think that has been firmly established on this blog. And now Craig loves it, too! I love infecting others with my media addictions. That is why I am a librarian.
The Wonderfalls Cast
Yesterday, Craig and I went to The Happy Sumo for sushi, and I had a delicious—to die for—veggie tempura roll with avocado, sriracha sauce and fresh mayonnaise. OMG so delicious.

Then we went back to my place and finished watching Wonderfalls (see above), drank a bottle of dry Riesling and downed several cups of sambuca. Liquorice-flavored magic!
Happy birthday yesterday, Craig! I hope you had as good a time as I did. (I also hope you aren’t suffering from a sambuca-induced hangover the way I am.)

It’s been five months since I got my lip pierced, but it’s only been a few weeks since it seems to have fully healed. This was perfect timing, by the way, because it meant I didn’t have to worry about it all during the two weeks I was in the boonies with my family.

I’ll often be in the middle of a conversation with someone—a friend or acquaintance, or even a stranger—and the person will break off suddenly to stare in fascination at my bottom lip.

Time for the questions, I think.
“Does it hurt?”
No.
“Did it hurt when they—you know . . .”
Not really. Not even as much as an injection. It was over so quickly it didn’t have time to hurt or bleed.
“Does it have a backing?”
It has a flat head, like a nail or a tack.

Labret Backing in Its Natural Habitat
“Does it bother you at all?”
Um, not anymore . . . now that the infection is gone.
This is about the time their eyebrows rise in horror and the conversation ends, with the friend/acquaintance/stranger declaring he or she could never get a piercing.
I, on the other hand, like it so much I plan on piercing something else—probably an eyebrow—within the next year.

I’ve had this week off of work, and, as it turned out, I mostly took the week off from blogging, too. Sorry! In any case, nothing especially exciting happened: I did a lot of reading, a lot of working out, a lot of eating nutritious, filling foods, and a lot of sleeping.
Today I picked up my new glasses, and got a new, larger labret stud. I’ll post pictures as soon as I can take one that doesn’t make me look like a complete schlub.
One thing I haven’t done yet this week is shopping. So tonight I raided the fridge and threw together a salad of spinach, quinoa and baked tofu, with a dressing made of salad oil, soy sauce, vinegar and a pinch of vegetarian soup base. I grated some pepper and pecorino cheese over the top and voilà! A healthy dish that was pretty okay!
This weekend is the Pride Festival in Salt Lake. I am charging my camera battery as I type, in order to be prepared for the wild and outrageous fun I’m sure to have Saturday and Sunday.
