A Brief Aside

Since we already had a conversation going about where ideas come from, I thought I’d mention that I just changed my e-mail signature to this quote from Oscar Wilde:

No great artist ever sees things as they really are. If he did, he would cease to be an artist.

That’s kind of what I was trying to say last Friday; if you always see the world as it is and never think of the possibilities, you will never be a writer of fiction, or any kind of artist. And Oscar Wilde with think you are a BORING PERSON, a fate too hideous to imagine. Quick! Think an original thought!

„Ich bin nicht zwanghaft. Ich bin präzise.“

Translation: “I’m not obsessive. I’m precise.” That’s my favorite quote from the German film “Bella Martha,” a so-so movie about an incredibly zwanghafte woman who is forced to get in touch with her human side when her young niece comes to live with her, and they both teach each other valuable life lessons, blah blah blah blah blah. But I like the quote.
